Ads management

Put your own structure on the account with campaign tag groups, then filter and split by them.

Your structure, on top of Amazon's

Amazon gives you campaign names and portfolios. Neither is the way you actually think about the account. Ads management is where you put your own structure on top of it, without touching anything in Amazon.

Today the section holds Organization: your campaigns, and the tags you put on them.

Tags and tag groups

A group is a question you ask about every campaign. Objective, Brand, Season. Its tags are the answers.

  1. Create your groups

Up to 10 groups per company, names up to 40 characters, with an optional description. Groups have an order you control, which is the order they appear everywhere else.

  2. Add tags to each group

Up to 50 tags per group. Each tag takes one of six colours, so a tag is recognisable at a glance in a table row.

  3. Tag your campaigns

On the Campaigns page, edit a single campaign's tags from its row, or select many and set a tag on all of them at once. When the selected campaigns disagree about a group, the control says so instead of silently picking one.

  4. Filter by them

Filter campaigns by any tag within a group, and by every group you pick. There is also a "no tag from this group" filter, which is how you find what you have not classified yet.

The campaigns table

Every campaign in the account, with status, type, portfolio, marketplace and its tags. Search by name, filter by status, type or tags, and select rows for bulk tagging. Setting a tag that replaces an existing one from the same group tells you what it replaces before the click lands.

Agency

Tag by client sub-brand and by objective. Now a report split by tag answers "how much did we spend defending each brand this month" — a question Amazon's own structure cannot answer, because nobody named the campaigns with that in mind three years ago.

Do
  • ✓Start with two or three groups; you can add more, but a vocabulary nobody maintains is worse than none.
  • ✓Use the 'no tag' filter regularly — an untagged campaign is a hole in every split you build on tags.
  • ✓Name groups as questions (Objective, Stage, Brand) and tags as answers.
Don't
  • ✗Recreate the campaign name in tags — tag the thing the name does not already tell you.
  • ✗Expect tags to change anything in Amazon; they exist only inside INGB.
